Become a Volunteer

Oakland Mediation Center values volunteers whose primary motivation is to help the greater community peacefully resolve conflict, who can commit to the volunteer service requirements, who possess the necessary skills to act as third-party neutrals, and whose mediation philosophy is compatible with that of OMC’s mission and vision.

Please see volunteer mediator application below for necessary qualifications.

Individuals interested in being considered for OMC’s volunteer mediator roster should complete the Volunteer Mediator Application and submit it for processing. OMC will assess each application and contact the applicant for a face-to-face interview to discuss interest and service requirements. Once approved, individuals will be scheduled to complete a 10-hour internship consisting of observation and/or co-mediation of cases. Upon completion of the internship, OMC staff will determine whether or not individuals will be placed on its roster.

OMC is mandated to conduct a criminal background check on any individual mediating or observing cases.

For questions, please contact the Volunteer Services Department at (248) 338-4280 x 210.
